Scope contamination reports to the FDA continue to increase

According to an article by Elizabeth Orr of Medtech Insight, the total number of MAUDE reports to the FDA involving scope contamination increased, for some scope types significantly, between 2014 and 2021. The article did note that in some cases the increase “could be tied to an increase in the number of procedures”.
Even if it’s simply, more procedures being done, the total numbers reinforce the importance of scope cleaning and of having gold-standard cleaning processes.
